G.R.E.S.LIBERDADE (Tokyo,Japan) |
It renamed "Grupo de Samba Liberdade" to "G.R.E.S. LIBERDADE" from Nov '96. Liberdade, (meaning "liberty"), is one of the most exciting samba groups in the Tokyo region today. Liberdade's regular and enthusiastic practice sessions throughout the year, participation in many parades and shows, and the group's friendly atmosphere attract a lot of people who seek to have real fun. With a rapidly expanding membership of about 70 bateria (percussion) members, 50 dancers, and more as of November 1996, Liberdade made a great leap into 2nd place out of some 30 participanting samba groups in the nation's biggest Samba Carnival in Asakusa, (see the article below). They compose their original enredo, (theme music), every year, build up big alegorias, (decorated floats), create their elaborate costumes totally by themselves, and parade with the full components of authentic carnivals in Brazil, such as "porta bandeiras," " mestre-sala," "commicao de frente," "baianas," etc. For more information, contact YUMIKO FUJIOKA (O-Yumiko), or TERUHIKO KUROSAKA (Kuro). |
